PALANTIR

I think we are living in a strange moment; technology has radically transformed the way we communicate, perceive the world, interact with each other, and work. However, despite this digital integration, the future feels more uncertain and confusing than ever.

The idea of a “Palantir” has been over my head throughout the beginning of 2026, surely because the “data analysis” company has gained a lot of popularity due to the entire geopolitical situation, but also because I have always felt a fascination for that dense crystal sphere used in “The Lord of the Rings” to see what the future held, in both fiction and reality, its only real purpose is surveillance.

With this in mind, I decided to create my own version of a palantir in this series of photographs, also inspired by some scenarios and stories of dystopias from Star Wars, Akira, and Berserk, because even when technology has become something so commonplace, for many of us it remains a kind of “magic” that, behind interfaces, we are far from understanding; but which has stolen individual traits from us that are nothing more than data, leaving us with an uncertain gaze toward the future where it isn’t clear—at times it can be somewhat pessimistic or depressing regarding what awaits us, where nothingness might be the most comforting thing in the best scenario.

Creo que estamos viviendo en un momento algo extraño; la tecnología ha transformado radicalmente la forma en que nos comunicamos, percibimos el mundo, interactuamos entre nosotros y trabajamos. Sin embargo, a pesar de esta integración digital, el futuro se siente más incierto y confuso que nunca.

La idea de un “Palantir” ha estado rondando mi cabeza todo el inicio del 2026, seguramente porque la empresa de “análisis de datos” ha ganado mucha popularidad debido a toda la situación geopolítica, pero también siempre sentí fascinación por esa esfera de cristal denso usado en “El Señor de los Anillos” para ver lo que deparaba el futuro y que, tanto en la ficción como en la realidad, su único propósito real es la vigilancia.

Con esto en mente, decidí crear mi propia versión de un palantir en esta serie de fotografías, inspirado también en algunos escenarios e historias de distopías de Star Wars, Akira y Berserk, porque incluso cuando la tecnología se ha vuelto algo tan cotidiano, para muchos de nosotros sigue siendo una especie de “magia” que, detrás de interfaces, estamos lejos de entender; pero que nos ha robado rasgos individuales que no son más que datos, que nos está dejando con una mirada al futuro incierta donde no es claro, a veces puede ser algo pesimista o deprimente sobre lo que nos espera, donde la nada puede ser lo más reconfortante en el mejor de los casos.
